Slippery Email scales up – over 1,000,000 messages handled

<![CDATA[slipperyIn the summer of 2014 I started a side-project, Slippery Email. The aim was of the site was simple — to make the world’s fastest and easiest way to create a burner email box that could be used to avoid spam and keep your primary inbox clean.

Over the course of winter 2014 I honed the product, improving server performance and responding to feature suggestions from users. But it was in 2015 that the site really started to scale up in terms of usage.

By the end of 2015, Slippery Email had protected users from a staggering 1.1 million spam messages across 160,000 mailboxes.

Users have found an amazing variety of uses for Slippery Email, but perhaps the most significant was for customers of Ashley Madison. In July 2015 the Ashley Madison database was hacked, revealing the email addresses and identities of 28 million customers worldwide. Of those customers, 108 were smart / lucky enough to be using Slippery Email so managed to stay anonymous.

Traffic to Slippery Email continues to grow, so expect to see more scale, speed and features in 2016.
